Just installed my mini maxx and have a couple questions. I left the boost defuel at the default setting which is 23 psi. On the mild level it duefuels fairly quickly, what is a safe boost level for the defuel?.
My pyro is also reading 1823 degrees constantly. im guessing a bad sensor. ?
Thanks, Dane

I can help you. On the pyro thing, I had the same problem. You need to go into the user settings in the mini maxx menu and select pyro source and select H&S pyro, and your problem will be solved. As far as the boost defuel, I set mine at 39psi. I found that anything under 39psi, and I would hit defuel just about any time I was getting on the freeway. So I hope this helps. I remember how frustrated I was with the pyro thing. I'm glad that someone was able to point me in the right direction.
yeah i was too. just figured it was a bad sensor or pch board. Other than the boost defuel deal, i love it so far. I did put her on "hot" for a few miles. Doesnt seem like its too good for my 68 lol

Get the overdrive tcm tuning from h&s and the tranny will be a little happier. If you dont want to replace your head gasket you might want to set your boost defuel to 35-36. Or get a waste gate or put some studs in.

so 35 for the boost? I thought that i had read that all the hg's were from too much injection timing from the smartys? does the smarty's bump the boost up like the h&s?

Most of our trucks only read to 38psi even if they are at 50psi so setting the boost defuel to 39 is a bad ideas because you basically just turned the defuel function off. Set it to 38... and even at 38 your risking a blown head gasket. 30-35 is much safer on a stock head gasket. I'm not saying your wrong or anything just offering a different opinion for the OP

Here are some fairly safe defuels:
30-35 Boost
1350-1450º H&S Pyro
220º HOT coolant
150º COLD coolant
180-200º Trans
Understand that when it comes to EGTs you will hit some pretty high numbers with the big daddy tunes until you find ways to combat the temps. 1823 is probably what you are actually hitting not a bad pyro. I started higher than that and have been doing all kinds of things to get them down... Turbo, exhaust manifold, opening up S&B CAI etc... I now only see 1500º max or so. I started with HD ATT .25 (beta) and was hitting 2000º+ on an occasion. Hitting a high number for a few seconds is "unlikely" to hurt anything but sustained temp for any period of time could be catastrophic. My next step is water/meth injection...
