MP8 Injector Codes Fixed...

I think I have stumbled onto a fix for the injector codes tied in with the MP8 on the 2010-up 6.7's. I was getting codes on a regular basis regardless of how I used the pickup. Although while towing, the codes would disappear. Daily driving the codes would pop up randomly for different cylinders.

I changed the fuel filter at 13,000 miles and the codes went away for almost 1,500 miles and then started poping up again but not as frequently. This to me is a dead givaway to a poor filtration system that takes the injectors out of their parameters with the added rail pressure.

I will be installing my Airdog II 165 on my next trip home. The mount has already been modified to fit the cat 2 micron absolute filter instead of the supplied 2 micron nominal filter. I think the codes will be cured completely after the install and better filtration, but that is just a guess baised on what I have seen so far.

We will also be throwing this thing on the dyno here pretty quick for some baseline numbers with and without the MP8. The airdog will be installed before the dyno trip, but I don't think it will throw the numbers off much at all unless the stock lift pump won't keep up with the rail pressure. Bone stock with just the MP8, rail pressure shouldn't be a problem. I am guessing about 260hp stock and about 300hp with the MP8.

so what were the codes that makes you believe it takes an injector out of parameters. Could you also explain what you mean by that Im having a hard time making a connection between the two

The codes are the p020A-F, injector performance codes. The parameters are set by the ecm and trigger the CEL once the parameter has gone beyond it's specifications.

Just like a misfire counter on a gas motor, once it has reached a certain number of misfires for a particular cylinder then the CEL is triggered and the cylinder information is stored.

I would be thinking it was more along the lines of just not enough fuel, as in a poor fuel lift system... Specially since the pump and small fuel supply lines that come as the OEM's are just enough for the truck as it was from the factory...

I could be wrong, but I don't think its got anything to do with the filtration so much really, and its just more along the lines of not enough supplied fuel after you have up'ed the annie on the fuel needed; with that MP8... LOL You know that the EPA Nazi's have got to be rolling over in their graves, with you doing this to a new truck....

You planning to put the new larger fuel suction leg in the tank and the 1/2" fuel supply line to the CP3??? I have changed my DS-II to the DS-V, sometime ago; and I would highly recommend that!!! The DS-V was so much better designed in how it goes in...

At any rate do hope you get all the trouble worked out on your truck soon. Be sure to keep your signature all up to date as you progress, so as to let all us readers know the what and how you have progressed...

I should have been more specific, but I think you are right. The poor filtration system is causing too much of a pressure loss across the filter and the stock lift pump or supply lines just can't keep up with the demand. That would explain why a new filter will cure the issue and once it has circulates some trash it will begin throwing codes again.

I am not 100% sure what lines I have, I will have to look next time I am home to see. I think it is 1/2" lines all the way to the cp3 and it bypasses the stock filter housing. As far as the sump goes, whatever comes with the Airdog II is what I am using. If there is an upgrade that I need before I do the install then just let me know. I hate doing things twice.

I just looked online, it's showing 1/2" lines and it uses a fuel tank module. I am not sure what the module consists of or the suction capabilities, but I am sure it will suit my needs just fine.

Ive been having the same exact issue since putting mine on 2 months ago. No matter how I drive, I get the same codes your getting. yet last week when I towed my buddys boat, 50miles each way, it never came on. then 5 miles after unhooking, the CEL came back on. it always seems to be running great, and gave up trying to figure out why the CEL coming on.

I will let you know how it does with the airdog and mp8. I won't have my black maxx till the end of the month since it's coming from canada, so it will be a dead givaway for the codes if I can put enough miles on it between the install of the airdog and the black maxx.

Threw the AD 165 on last night and went for a test run. From a dead stop to WOT, I pop a P0087 at around 90mph with a shimmed fuel rail valve. The injector codes poped back up this morning, probably from pending codes previously. I will try to put some miles on it before I get the tuner and exhaust on it to see how it acts.

My 2011 was doing the same thing with lift pump and rail plug shimmed. I solved it by putting a solid plut in the rail and have never had it happen again. It has been about 10 months now and everything is fine

What's the downside to a rail plug?
