I am wanting to add some gauges to my truck. It is a stock '09 2500 QC used to pull 5th wheel trailer. I am having a hard time spending $500 for 3 or 4 gauges. I have looked at the edge monitor, which will give me more options but is still $300-400. I have not done any deletes yet, don't know why but still wanting to keep the warranty. I am thinking about getting a blackmaxx and running stock and turning the egr off, for now. I know if I have it, the deletes will come soon. What are your opinions? Would that be stupid and a waste of money? Thanks
If you are going to do the delete later it wont be a bad idea to get the Black Maxx or even the Mini Maxx. You will have all your gauges and you can turn the EGR off. Then when you want you can do the deletes and save money by already having your programmer.

I agree with Army on this one... spend the little extra right now, get the BM or MM, it monitors everything you need... and sets you up for a easy delete later on.
I wrestled this question also. I wound up going with an xrt and gauges in a dash top pod that you can find here: http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/6-...e-cluster.html I'm a gauge person anyway and this makes you feel like your in a pit. The other nice thing with the xrt is that you install your tunes and then put it on the shelf. Nothing extra in the cab to mount. Bottom line is do what you think looks good or works best for you. PS: an xrt with gauges costs about the same as a blackmax.

I agree with all these guys . . . spend the money now and it'll grow with your needs down the road.
Nothing is more frustrating than buying something, finding it doesn't grow with the truck and having to sell it in the classified section for 50% less.
First thing to do is make sure you know what you want from your truck. If you just want a little more power to pull your 5th wheel and guages to watch what is going on then the blackmaxx would be good for you for the following reasons.
1. you have more power with on the fly adj for when you are pulling or not pulling
2. you will have a tranny tune coming july 1st to help hold the extra power
3. you have guages to monitor your setup
BUT, if you think you may want a high horsepower setup with an aftermarket turbo ect... then you may want to go with a smarty or xrt because the boost reading will be limited on the maxx. You may need one boost guage or two if you go twins so you can monitor what is going on.
There are different ways of getting what you want and will boil down to your personal preference.
