Serious downpipe problem

O.k., I have a 5" SS TBE Magnaflo for my exhaust. I`ve noticed exhaust in my cabin for quite awhile. I had the system checked and the downpipe clamp was really loose. Still had the smell. Saw a post here that someone had the same problem and put their stock downpipe back on. Bingo, no exhaust smell. Take a look at the pics:

You can clearly see that it did not sit right at all. Just 2 spots where it connected. No wonder the clamp was always loose.

I strongly suggest that anyone who is doing a TBE, cut off the stock downpipe flang and put it on what ever kit you got. You don`t have to put the whole stock downpipe (as the cat in on it), but use the stock flang. Your playing with you health here.

Just thought I would share my problem.

Just got mine repaired this morning. Same as yours...not a good seal at all. The strange things is that there was none of the usual indications of soot where it was leaking. Maybe because it runs so hot? I hope that this fixes it. Any one else who has an aftermarket exhaust should check this area for a possible exhaust leak.

You can use a few things to find out if it is leaking. Buddy used a mecahincs stethoscope and said he could clearly tell there was a leak on John's truck. We did not test my truck although I knew it was leaking. We cut the flange off the stock system and welded it onto the new system. I could tell right away that this worked...no more smell in the cab when you stop at an intersection.

I have the Magnaflow #15986, SS, 5", TBE on my truck and the clamp is tight and no leakage around the flange at all.

some of the kits I have installed you have to grind down alittle bit on the inside of the flange for it to fit proper and looks like in your case you could grind alittle then it would seal better
