It's time to unleash the Beast! I have now received my EGR/Cooler delete kit, 4" Turbo back BADP Gen 1 is on the way (I hope), Banks Intercooler, and of course the PMT update is now out. So, my question is should I remove my intake butterfly or not?
I have read every thread I can find on the subject and see that sometimes it works and sometimes not. Is there any new tribal knowledge on the subject? What is the factor that causes the butterfly removal to screw things up??

I've read on here numerous times that the 08s generally do not have a problem when you leave the butterfly plate in, but if you do experience any woes you can just take it out then. The clamp and 6 bolts to remove the intake and flip it over go fairly quickly and removing the torx screws from the butterfly plate were the easiest things I removed.
Also, if you received the EGR & EGR cooler delete kit from K2 you did not receive the block off plate and gasket for the EGR cooler in case you wanted to remove JUST the EGR first and the cooler later. I did the same thing and ended up doing it in stages because a few of the cooler bolts kicked my butt.

Thanks. I was not aware of that. Did you also order the cooler delete plates and gaskets seperately from K3 or just make your own?

My cooler/egr delete is also on the way. So to be on the safe side I should just remove the butterfly and be done with it. Otherwise I may or may not have problems. Just want to be sure that by removing it and not needing to everything will be fine no matter what.

There's an easier way! My truck's an 08 and after the deletes, it would idle real rough and puff white smoke like crazy when it was cold. So all you have to do is remove the servo gear that moves the butterfly. My butterfly was default open, so with the gear removed, you'll never know it's there. Also very easy to reinstall if you ever need to.

I don't mind taking it out if even if I'll be ok with it in. Just as long as taking it out isn't a hit or miss thing. I don't want to do the whole process more than once if I can help it.

Mine is still in, but didn't have any adverse effects until I installed my PMT and it updated my truck to the AY flash. Even then my truck just kinda sounds like it's got a big cam in it when I first start it up for maybe 10-15 seconds like the valve is opening and closing. Once the truck warms up it doesn't do it anymore.

I would just try it to see what happens. It wont hurt anything, you'll know right away if it will work or not. If it idles rough or throws you into limp mode, then you'll just have to remove the servo gear.
