Engine light

The problem started after i did a after market alarm. Every thing works fine from remote start to the auxiliary functions. I did do the sentry start bypass (key in a box). Now a little red light flashes by the speedo. Any ideas?

i scanned for codes but nothing came up. It makes an obnoxious clicking when it turns on. It comes and goes and sometimes the tire light comes on with it but stays solid. Then both will go away for ten or so miles.

Where did you pull power for the alarm system? Possible your power draw is interfering with a signal and the ECM is getting invalid voltages. These trucks are VERY sensitive to changes in wiring. If you can, pull constant 12v from the battery (fused of course) and if you need switched 12v use the power port under the dash.

I have a hot coming from the battery. I did a relay that taps into the ignition wire. Could that be the cause

I'm no expert, but it sounds like the alarm is causing communication problems on the CAN bus. How does the immobilizer work, what is it tied into? The CAN bus ties all the various modules throughout the truck together, it's fairly common for aftermarket devices like alarms and stereos to cause problems if not properly installed or designed to work with CAN bus systems.

the immobilizer breaks the ignition wire. If the alarm goes off, or if i press a button, it energizes the relay separating the contacts. so it kills the starter. I've also tapped an auxiliary to the cargo light button. The door locks are tied into the alarm. The door sensor are tied into the alarm. The siren is external, the alarm light is external. And the parking lights are set to flash With the alarm.
The light coming on is number 13 in the Manuel on page 188. It only comes on when i'm driving forward faster than 30. Every thing is normal when i'm puttin around or idling.

Have you contacted tech support for Viper? They may have some info if there's a known problem with certain vehicles.

What does the manual say about light #13? What is it saying causes that light?

13. Security Light
The light will flash rapidly for approximately 16 seconds
when the Vehicle Theft Alarm is arming. The light will
flash at a slower rate after the alarm is set. The Security
Light will also come on for about two seconds when the
ignition is first turned ON.
