ac smells

it started about 5 days ago. when I turn on the ac it smells like vinegar. the only thing that I can think of is there is a stinch added to the system and I have a leak, or someone spilled a beer in my truck and won't admit to it. on that note I looked in the manual and it didn't say anything about an ac filter. I have never changed one but I know they do exist. any help would be great.

not sure if your truck has a cabin filter it may or may not but what could be happening is that your running your ac and then shut it off with the truck and the condensation builds up and it starts to make "mold" one way to prevent this is turn off ac and leave fan on to dry out the vent lines

cool I will try that. the smell is not as strong when the ac is off and the fan is running. is there anything that I can do to kill the smell other than air freshener. I want to puke when I turn on the ac. it's bad

is the condensation dripping from under the truck when the ac is on? should be! If the drain tube for the evaporator to drain is plugged, then all the condensation would stay inside and you would smell it. Just a thought...

They make a kit that is designed to get the mold smell out of an AC system. This happens when the drain tube is plugged up or when the A/C has not been used in a while. Check out NAPA, I know they sell the kit.
