Hello everyone. I'm looking to upgrade my fog lights to get a brighter light. I switched my headlights to Piaa bulbs a while back and they made quite a difference. I would like my fogs to match my headlights with the blueish color, and obviously more light output. I'm just having trouble deciding what to do? Should I just put piaa bulbs in my fogs? I though I read something a while back that geno's garage sold pigtails that would allow me to use the same bulbs in my fogs as I have in my headlights. That seems like a good option. I have also considered converting to HID fogs, or possibly LED bulbs. What advise do you all have for me? What are some pro's and con's to each setup? I would like to keep the cost under $100 if possible. Any thoughts and advise would be great. Pictures are always good too.
I've been looking at HID conversions, and will probably go that route. What is the stock fog light bulb? My truck is an 08. I just want to make sure I buy the right kit. Does anyone have suggestions on a good kit. I'm thinking that the 10000k kit will produce the color I'm looking for.

Genos Garage sells a Fogzilla wire harness adapter that lets you run a higher output
9005 bulb instead of the 9007 in up to 2009 Rams.
The 9005 gives you 1700 lumens instead of just 1000, plus you can still choose whatever brand 9005 bulb you want, though FYI the Phillips Xtreme-Vision are VERY highly rated bulbs.
More importantly, using this harness and upgarded bubs will give you excellent forward fog lighting, WITHOUT scattering light all over the place and in oncoming drivers eyes, which is something that the HID bulb upgrades DO!!
The harness adapter costs all of $20 and is plug and play.

I have the Fogzilla kit. What a great mod!! My fogs are actually brighter than my low beams and they're down low...don't seem to bother oncoming drivers.

Do it right, get HIDS. You can get a really good set for under $100. However, your headlights will look funny now since your fogs will be brighter. IMO you should change them all to HIDS.

Or you can go down to NAPA, Autozone, PepBoys, etc and buy the plugs for the 9005 bulbs and just swap them. The 03-09 Rams use a 9006 bulb in the fog lights from the factory which has a connector body identical to the 9005 lights except the key is in a different location. They use the same "pins" so you can just use a tiny screwdriver to remove the pins from the factory 9006 sockets and insert them into the 9005 sockets ensuring that you keep them in the same orientation. Cost wise, it's about the same as the Fogzilla but you can go to most autoparts stores and get them off the shelf and you don't have a second connector under the truck.
One other point to mention is that the 9005 and 9006 bulbs key into the light housing slightly differently also so you need to file about 1/8" off one of the bulb keys to get it in the socket.

Went with retro-solutions HID for headlights and fogs. Real nice set up. Easy install, and don't flicker with their kit. Only problem is that the fogs will blind people. The headlights I just adjusted and aren't an issue, but with the fogs on, I'll get flashed.... Most of the time its a prius or other small car so might just be the height difference....

Here is a quote from another thread.
It's just my $.02........

Being that the lights are so low, they really are worthless for anything other than cosmetic appearance. Yeah, you could put some "yellows" in for fog, and they would be beneficial. But if you put in anything brighter, hoping to see further down the road, you'll just overwhelm on coming drivers. Maybe even get hit by a blinded one.
They look cool, right before dusk, though.
Good luck.....

I actually took the advise of khakicummins today and replaced my 9006 connectors with 9005 ones I got from autozone. I put some silverstar zxe bulbs in my fogs, and I have to say that it works great. The results are exactly what I was looking for. I do like the idea of HID's, but didn't want to install them until I can do my headlights too. So for now, I am very happy. My fogs are twice as bright as stock, and It was a very affordable upgrade. I would recommend it to anyone seeking seeking result simular to mine.
