One weakness in the 2nd generation trucks involves a marginal intake
air filtering system that quickly becomes a bottleneck when even
relatively simple power mods are made that require more intake airflow.
On my own truck, the simple addition of an Edge Comp added enough
airflow demand to pull down the intake Filter Minder by two-thirds on
the first RV tow up a steep Sierra grade - NOT good!
This simple plug-in
device allows you to get an additional 10% horsepower and torque from
your engine! Add it with injectors for a super combination! When
using the ADD with boxes that have a MAP Sensor provision, always plug
the ADD directly into the MAP Sensor, then plug the box harness to the
ADD. To explain it simply: The ADD has a microprocessor that acts as a
electronic voltage regulator, thus never allowing the engine computer
to see an over-boost signal.
Since the new Vulcan Draw Straw has been getting a lot of attention
recently, I put together a “how to” article to help some of the guys,
who are still on the fence, make the decision to “git ‘r done!” The
install is much easier than most would think, only requiring basic
skills and tools to complete the task … so here goes!
This write up is for the AFS Big Dog Fuel System with Walbro GSL 392
pump on a 98.5 - 2002. The kit comes complete with everything you need
to install on your truck so long as you still have the original fuel
module and not the in-tank lift pump. If you do you will just need to
install a Draw Straw.
